For Authors Requesting Reviews

If you’re an author who wants me to read and review their book please read the following and take it seriously before you decide to send your book to me:

  • Make sure you read some of my low star reviews before you come to me because I don't pull any punches, especially when it comes to editing mistakes (I will notice them).
  • If you ask me to read and review your book you've got a high chance of being accepted, unless you are the author of a self help book, a children's picture book, or a graphic novel/comic book.  I may make an exception for your book if it falls within one of those categories, but it's less likely to take my fancy as they generally aren't genres I enjoy.
  • If you send me your book to review I expect it to be complete.  In this instance I'm not acting as your editor or beta reader, I am just a normal customer reading your book and giving my thoughts on it.  Unless you want to have all your editing mistakes brought to light you'd better fix them before sending the book to me.  I am reasonably tough on editing mistakes, no matter who the author is or how I came to be reading the book.
  • I am willing to do proofreading and beta reading, but that has to be the service you ask for.  I don't want to see a book at the beta reader stage when it is sent to me for review, that won't garner a good review from me.
  • Constructive criticism is how you learn as an adult, whether it's learning to ski or learning to write.  I won't do gentle a hand holding review just because you're new to the business.  If that's the kind of 'criticism' you're looking for I suggest you ask your family to review your book, not me.
